“It’s About Time Week”

In the last few weeks or so I have found myself feeling like there just isn’t enough time. Between running a busy practice, community and professional obligations, and the hustle and bustle of the Holiday season, it can be easy to switch over to auto pilot and wait until it’s over. But I hope that you will resist that urge, and take some time to not only look back, but look ahead at the new year to come!

“It’s About Time Week” is an actual recognized holiday, lasting from Christmas Day until New Year's Eve. Bringing the year to a close, this week is a time dedicated to last-minute goals, chores, and bursts of inspiration. It’s About Time Week is a time to  motivate us as we strive for success and positive beginnings in 2019.

“It’s About Time Week” simply reminds us that every year must come to an end, which coerces us into being efficient and mindful with our time. As we move into the week of the end-of-the-year holidays, without even consciously realizing it, you have probably become more aware of the passage of time. We naturally begin to take a sort of inventory of what we have accomplished, and what we still want to do. You probably experience this in time spent reminiscing with family and in planning New Year’s Resolutions.

What is Important to You?

In my work, I help to coach people from where they are now to where they would rather be, physically, emotionally, financially, and in whatever area of their lives they want to create change. This means that first, they have to know where they are.

Let’s think for a minute about the idea of moving forward. In order to get to somewhere new, you need some navigation skills. And all good navigation tools, even the GPS on your phone, starts with where you are right now.

Here are some sets of questions to help you figure out where you are starting from. Answering honestly will help you see your current position realistically, instead of too negative or overly positive.

What were the most challenging  events of 2018?

What coping strategies did you use to manage those events?

What would you change about how you handled those events?

What did you do for Self-care in 2018?

How did you care for others?

What areas are you still lacking in (sleep habits, skin care, mindfulness, etc.)?

What was your biggest health and wellness success in 2018?

What tools and resources helped you achieve your goal?

What is your health goal for this coming year?

What did you procrastinate the most on in 2018?

What are the barriers or distractions you used to procrastinate?

How would you like 2019 to be different?

What did you feel most confident about in 2018?

When did you feel the strongest?

What other areas of your life do you want to feel more confident in in 2019?

What was your most stressful moment of 2018?

What tools did you use to manage and reduce that stress?

What areas of your life would you like to experience more calm in 2019?

What was the kindest thing someone did for you in 2018?

What is the kindest thing you did for someone else in 2018?

How do you want to cultivate more kindness in you life in 2019?

What is the biggest change you made in 2018?

What qualities did you develop to help you maintain that change?

What is the biggest change you want to make in 2019?

Setting Your Sights on the Year Ahead

Now that you have given some real thought about the past year, you probably have a clearer picture of where you would like to make some adjustments in the year to come. Sometimes the hardest part is deciding where you want to go. Now that you have some perspective, you can begin to decide what actions you will need to take to move toward the goals you just created for yourself.

The Role of Hypnosis

Hypnosis is so much more than quitting smoking and overcoming fears. It is also about becoming more aware of what you are doing and thinking and feeling. All of your habits, thoughts, behaviors, self-talk, and emotions are controlled and managed by your subconscious mind. Hypnosis is the Master Class, teaching you how your mind works, and how to make it work for you.

It’s about time we started celebrating our time and all the changes we’ve made and still want to make, the hobbies we let go and the ones we still want to pick up, the effort we put into school or work, and how much we still need to push ourselves. We don’t see that it’s about time to change our lives until so much time has already gone by.∎
